Raising Sheep, Marketing Lamb and Conserving Farmland

Four Hills Farm, Versailles, KY -- October 26, 2026, 1 - 4 pm ET

Jim Mansfield and Lynn Pruett have raised Katahdin hair sheep in central Kentucky for decades, creating a supply chain that supplied a national grocery chain for 16 years. Their story of challenge, resilience and flexibility in meeting change demonstrates the reality of farming today. This OAK Field Day will highlight their Four Hills Farm in Woodford County, including Jim and Lynn’s history in the sheep business, considerations for choosing and managing pasture-raised hair sheep, details on creating a multi-farm supply chain and the work of preserving their farmland through sustainable renovation and a conservation easement. Jim and Lynn will demonstrate their working systems, current land and livestock management practices, and how old and new structures and approaches can create a sustainable life for the flock, guardian dogs and family.
